The Haru Difference

はるとは

Despite the boom in sake overseas, the past 10 years have been rocky for Japanese sake breweries. 1 in 5 have closed, despite exports doubling.

Haru aims to be a fresh breath of spring air into the world of sake.

In short, we make painstaking efforts to uncover the hidden gems of small artisan breweries. We ensure that sake is sustainable by rewarding the breweries fairly - while still providing the sake to you at a reasonable price. And we provide the necessary information and accessories to ensure that you don't get the best sake, but the best sake experience.

Providing the best sake experience

//harusake.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/haru-difference-4.svg

Make no mistake, the sakes that we stock have been carefully selected based on our own selection and tasting. We only stock sakes made from the best water and rice in Japan.

But aside from just choosing the sake, we know that how you enjoy it is important. We are bringing in accessories such as sake cups which can add an extra layer to your enjoyment of sake.

Also, just as the consumption of wine has become a common affair in non-Western cuisine, sake can complement non-Japanese cuisine well in ways one would never imagine. All our sakes come with recommended food pairings which can make a perfect dinner.

We are pleased to provide our opinion should you wish to contact us directly. Our Managing Director, Yoko Komura, is a certified International Sommelier.

Working only with the Artisans

//harusake.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/haru-difference-1.svg

Haru only works with breweries producing 100 kilolitres or less of sake a year. In total this slice of breweries only produces 5% of the total sake in circulation.

This is because we want to provide more choice aside from the usual brands. Also, this small lot-production shows the commitment to the best ingredients and attention to detail of the breweries.

Sadly this small lot production is also precisely why these breweries are facing predatory pricing measures. We want to bring their gems to you and give them a fighting chance.

Sake at a Reasonable Price

//harusake.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/haru-difference-2.svg

The Haru team is bilingual and is both in Japan and in Singapore.

We do not work with middlemen because we do not need to. In fact, part of our commitment to our sake and to you is that we know the breweries personally. In fact we often do pay them visits and converse with them in Japanese.

This is also why we can still provide you with artisan sake at a reasonable price!

Working with, and not against, Breweries

//harusake.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/haru-difference-3.svg

In the end, if there are no breweries, there is no sake

When researching we discovered that currently breweries may be getting even as low as $2 profit per bottle they sell to middlemen - without accounting for overheads.

We give our breweries a much fairer rate because we know that without them and their very hard and manual work, we would not be able to enjoy the sake on our table.

We're hoping that many people in Singapore and throughout the world will support them too!
